STAYC’s Sumin Ventures into Acting with Director Hong Won-ki’s ‘Gwisi’

STAYC member Sumin is set to make her big-screen debut, marking her first foray into acting.

According to an exclusive report by Ilgan Sports on the 16th, Sumin will appear in director Hong Won-ki’s new horror film Gwisi. Hong is known for directing films such as Zombie Hunter and Urban Myths.

Director Hong, who previously directed several of STAYC’s music videos, was particularly impressed by Sumin’s acting skills and on-screen presence during those projects. This led him to personally suggest her participation in Gwisi.

Sumin completed filming for Gwisi in late April of last year over the course of three sessions. Despite it being her first acting challenge, sources say she felt comfortable on set thanks to director Hong’s trademark humor. Sumin reportedly brought great passion to her role, even performing wire work for a scene requiring her to bend backward dramatically.

This year, Sumin isn’t just exploring acting—she’s also gearing up for a busy year in her primary role as an idol. STAYC, the group she belongs to, is set to make a comeback in February. In an interview with Ilgan Sports last December, the group teased, “We can’t share too many details as it might spoil the surprise, but we believe both fans and the general public will be amazed.”

Following the comeback, STAYC will kick off their second world tour with a concert in Seoul this April. After completing their first world tour TEENFRESH last year, releasing their first full-length album Metamorphic, and dropping the digital single Dot Dot Dot, STAYC has maintained a relentless pace. Fans are eager to see how much the group will grow and evolve in 2025.

Meanwhile, Gwisi, where audiences will get to see Sumin’s acting debut, is scheduled for release in 2025.
